Crunch is where you rehearse a difficult conversation before you have it. The things you say in one are the sentences you have not been able to say to anyone, so the app is built to hold as little of them as it can.
The short version: the people you practise about, your notes about them, and the record of your rehearsals never leave your phone. An account holds your email and what you have paid for, and nothing else.
What stays on your phone
The following is stored on your device only. It is not uploaded, it is not backed up to us, and we cannot read it:
- The people you add, including their names, roles and anything you write about them.
- Your relationship timelines and the notes on them.
- Conversations you schedule.
- Your rehearsals: the transcripts, the debriefs, the retries and the comparisons.
- Your settings and the avatars you choose, which are drawn on the device rather than fetched.
Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
What an account holds
You can practise without signing in. If you do sign in, with Apple or with Google, we ask your provider for one thing: an email address. The account then holds:
- Your email address and an account identifier.
- Whether you have an active subscription, and when it expires.
- How many practice credits you have, and when they expire.
Access is decided on our server rather than in the app, which is the reason these three things exist. Nothing about who you are practising with, or what you said, is stored alongside them.
What passes through on its way to an answer
A rehearsal needs something to answer you, and a debrief needs to quote you accurately. To do that, the text of what you have said in the current rehearsal is sent to a third-party AI model provider, which returns the reply or the debrief.
That text is not stored on our servers. It is sent, used to produce the answer, and not retained by us. The providers we route to may process it under their own terms, and which providers we use can change over time as availability and cost change.
Your notes about a person, your timelines and your rehearsal history are not part of what gets sent.
Voice and audio
Crunch does not record or store audio. Speech is turned into text as you speak, using your device's own recognition wherever the platform and your language allow it, which means the words are never sent anywhere for that step.
When your practice partner speaks back, the line it is about to say is sent for speech synthesis and audio comes back. That is text going out, not your voice, and it is not kept. Your device's own voice is used instead when no provider is configured.
Subscriptions and payment
Payment is handled entirely by the App Store, Google Play or the Galaxy Store. We never see or receive your card details. We use RevenueCat to tell us whether a purchase succeeded and what it entitles you to; it receives a purchase identifier and your account identifier, not your payment information.
Reminders
If you schedule a conversation and ask to be reminded, the app can send you a notification before it. To do that on Android we use OneSignal, and the only thing recorded about you there is the time of your next scheduled conversation, as a timestamp.
The name of the person you are meeting is never sent and never appears on a notification. A lock screen is a public surface.
Advertising
If you choose to earn a practice credit by watching an ad, that ad is served by Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising identifier. This applies only to the Google Play version of the Android app. There are no ads in the iOS app or the Galaxy Store app, and no ad is ever shown during a rehearsal or a debrief.
Analytics
Crunch does not send usage analytics anywhere. Events are recorded in memory on the device so the app can behave sensibly, and they are discarded when it closes. The text of a rehearsal cannot reach them by design.
What you can do about all of it
- Export everything. Settings has a control that produces a file containing your people, notes and rehearsals, which you can save or send wherever you like.
- Delete everything. Settings also has a control that erases the local data first and then deletes your account and everything the server holds for it. It is irreversible and it does not require contacting us.
- Practise without an account. Signing in is only needed to subscribe or to restore a subscription.
Children
Crunch is written for working adults and is not directed at children. It is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or where it goes, the date at the top changes with it and the new version appears here.
